Too often we read about fathers in the news for the wrong reasons.  Unpaid child support, or crimes against children, spouses or partners.

This Sunday there’s the day for fathers who do their bit to have their (if somewhat brief) time in the spotlight.

Those fathers who coach sports teams, show their children how to fish, teach them values that they will carry through the rest of their lives, and those fathers who do put in the effort to ensure there’s food on the table or just lend a helping hand.

The fathers don’t get the coverage that the others do, but they deserve credit for shaping and helping in young lives all over the country.

So, at the risk of invoking the wrath of mothers everywhere make Sunday a special day for the Dads who go the extra mile, who turn up to every game, who fix the broken bike, or rub that sore knee.  It’s only for 24 hours, but it’s a great way to say thank you Dad.
