I was happy to announce Government funding of $200,000 to help Rugby Park provide better facilities for the world’s media during Rugby World Cup 2011.   The Southland Outdoor Stadium Trust has designed the proposed media tower in such a way that it not only meets Rugby World Cup needs but is also useful in the longer term to users of the Stadium.

The project had been assessed by the Government and by Rugby World Cup organizers, and light of funding going to other stadiums around the country to upgrade facilities, it was only right Southland’s upgrade was recognized as well.

We have some of the best sporting facilities in the country down here, and now this funding will allow Rugby Park to keep its place as our premier outdoor sporting stadium.

The Rugby World Cup Stadium fund was allocated $35 million by the Government in April 2009.
