The Board has been appointed for the new health shared services organization.

The organisation has been created to help reduce the cost of DHB back office functions and harness the benefits of bulk purchasing, with estimated savings of up to $700 million over several years.

National has felt for some time that the duplication of effort amongst DHBs, with the ensuing doubling up of resources that could better used at the frontline, is wasteful.

Our efforts to put more taxpayer dollars to those frontline services such as elective surgery, shorter waiting times at A&E and for cancer treatment and radiotherapy and increased immunization are already paying off.

The new organization, with a wide mix of health delivery and business procurement expertise, will help reduce the wait for key health services.
