Budget 2011 delivers a lot on what remains a tight budget for the National government.

There is $2.2b more for health over four years, including $14b in 2011/12 – the most ever.  There is $1.4b more for education over four  years including  $12.2b in 2011/12 – the most ever. Law and Order gets $157m more over two years to help make communities safer.  Infrastructure receives  $1.6b more for broadband, schools, and the KiwiRail turnaround plan.  The Youth Employment Package got $55.2m to support young people into jobs.

Budget 2011 builds a strong platform for growth.  It protects vulnerable families, boosts investment in health and education, and helps rebuild Canterbury.

Budget 2011 returns the government to surplus in 2014/15, a year earlier than forecast in Budget 2010.

It’s a great Budget for tough economic times.
