As I have said before, it’s still tough economic times and we all need to continue to monitor spending and get the best out of what we have got.

The good news for Invercargill and Southland is that the National-led Government is delivering better services for all of us.

We’ve had a 13.1% drop in recorded crime in 2011, a key focus of our law and order policies.

The Government has also committed funding to clean-up Waituna Lagoon.  We have had over 40 extra doctors and 90 extra nurses for Southern DHB since 2008, and around 1,600 extra patients a year are now getting elective surgeries at Southern DHB.

The Government has set aside $7 million to upgrade 37 schools in the Invercargill electorate, and we’re rolling out faster broadband to schools, hospitals, and communities as well.

We’re making best use of our resources.
