Conservation Week started on Sunday.  The theme this year is celebrating our National Parks, and there is a major focus on Stewart Island around Rakiura National Park.

Conservation has always been a passion of mine, and my love of the great outdoors has allowed me to take part in a great number of group and private projects, including planting wetlands and a lot of work with the Department of Conservation in the Southland region.

I see every day as a conservation day.  If we can all do our bit, it makes a difference.  I applaud such initiatives as the recent 2000 plantings done by 200 volunteers and the Otatara Landcare Group at the Bushy Point restoration area.

Conservation Week might only be seven days – but we can all do our own little bit for the rest of the year.
